I finally have the opportunity to blog the gorgeous Rachel. Rachel joined us for the vintage concept shoot, which featured make up and hair by Grace and Style. The make up is a brand new range by Dotti & Ez, and is just beautiful. I found the coolest location in Milton, which has a touch of European about it. Big thanks to Leah from Grace & Style, as well as the models and all our helpers:) ….simply a wonderful afternoon. I can’t wait to do it again!

Why should I hire a Professional Photographer

Upon meeting new people, I frequently end up in conversations that pan out something like this……..

“Why would you bother hiring a Professional Photographer any more? Everybody has a SLR, so they take good photographs, right” Whilst I do keep my mouth shut, I often feel like proposing a challenge to them….

Recently, I was doing a Newborn session, and Nanna asked if she could take some photos after I had set some poses up. Under normal circumstances, I make Nanna nice and busy pulling funny faces, and carrying on like a pork chop to make the kids crack up.

This time, however, I thought this could be an interesting exercise. The deal was, I would allow her to take some shots if she agreed to send them to me so that I could write this blog. When she sent them through to me, I thought ‘Wow, these are not too bad’

The reality is that lots of people can take good and even great snaps……….

On another note, people frequently admire my equipment and tell me that it must take brilliant photographs. But let’s put it into another perspective here, another field of talent, if you will. Imagine you are invited to a dinner party by a local chef. The food is wonderfully prepared and presented and tastes amazing. Do you think that an expensive, great stove must be how he prepared such a wonderful meal? Probably not; because you would realize that it is the chef’s experience and skill that helped to make the meal so delicious.

The same goes with photography. Yes, a better camera in knowledgeable hands can usually produce better images than a basic beginner camera in knowledgeable hands. But. Overall, you will find that the quality of the image is directly related to the experience and skill of the person creating the image.

So, here goes – Why a Professional Photographer?

1. Know-how

A nice camera isn’t enough to take good pictures. If you haven’t mastered the exposure triangle, if you aren’t shooting in a mode other than “auto”, if you don’t know how to create sharp images…the camera won’t magically know how to do it for you. Taking pictures in auto modes and relying on the camera to choose the right settings will give you randomly good shots….and a lot of randomly bad ones, too. Hiring a professional photographer is hiring technical expertise, knowledge, know-how and experience.

2. Professional Retouching

In the digital era, photographs need a bit of editing to get a “wow” factor. It doesn’t mean they have to be heavily edited. Having a photographer who understands how to add the right amount of contrast, the ideal amount of brightness/darkness in the right places, remove color casts from skin, correcting skin tones, or make a perfect black and white conversion can change an image into an beautiful piece of art.

3. The Artist’s Eye

Ask 3 different people to photograph the same subject and you will get 3 different photos. Photography is an art, a vision, if you will and it’s highly subjective. Hiring a professional photographer is trusting his or her vision and trusting that he or she will help you to create images you will love.

4. Finally Be in the Photo!!

That’s an obvious one: hiring a professional photographer is the best way to finally be in the photo with your loved ones….thus documenting the love and interaction/emotions between you and them…which is priceless gift for the whole family!

So next time you have a significant life event, keep this in mind:)

Who said that Family Portraits have to be stuffy??? Meet the Perrin Family. These guys are the like the Brady Bunch on steroids!! What a stack of fun, beautiful people. Fiona and Lou have recently completed some major renovations on the house. Hence, a perfect opportunity to showcase not only the family (and the pets), but the house as well! With five beautiful girls, Fiona and Lou certainly have their work cut out for them!! Thank you so much for the opportunity to spend time with your amazing family:)

Portrait Photography Brisbane – The delightful Margot Jane

James and I headed out to Karara (west of Warwick) over the Easter long weekend for a bit of R&R. My folks live on an amazing property which sprawls for miles. So many photographic options!….some of them later. Today, I want to show off my beautiful niece, Margot. She is the spitting image of my sister when my sister was that age. Quite uncanny. Also, like her mother, she REALLY dislikes having her photo taken. I took this opportunity when she was very busy in the grass, and I feel she just looks like a little cherub (not that I am at all biased:)). Love you Margot Jane x

Vintage Fashion Photography

Every now and then an opportunity comes along to try something a little different. Make up artist/dear friend, Leah and I, have been talking about a collaboration for ages, so when Leah wanted to showcase her beautiful new range of make up, this was the perfect chance.

This shoot involved finding a suitable venue, clothing, props and models. The model whom I showcase today is Amee. Whilst most of us are a little self critical, like most teenagers, Amee is super critical of herself. Moreover, Amee was not exactly jumping through hoops to partake in this excercise. I think that the resulting images speak for themselves – stunning, stunning, stunning!!!

At the end of the day, Amee’s mother comes up to me with tears in her eyes and says “Thank you so much for making my daughter smile”……….my work here is done:) xx

Luke and Erin live in Cairns, so we met two days before the wedding at the Tarragindi Studio. They had their wedding at the delightful Mount Tambourine venue of Albert River Wines. A simply lovely little jewel, complete with Chapel, restaurant, bocce course and the most amazing scenery you have ever seen. This wedding was full of surprises – the biggest of which was the Horse and Carriage which escorted the bride and her bridal party to the chapel. Luke had arranged this as Erin had always wanted a Horse and Carriage at her wedding….so sweet:) The cloudy morning made way for a glorious sunny afternoon. Making the most of it, we headed straight for vines as well as the rest of the exquisite property. This image was the final location and has the heavens shining down on this beautiful couple.
Thank you for the privilege Erin and Luke - it really was an amazing day. xx I can’t wait to design your album!!

The amazing Albert River Winery. Magnificent scenery.

The girls got ready at Clandulla Cottages, Boyland Rd, Boyland. Such a wonderful property, complete with horse and carriage!

We met the lads at the Chapel – Albert River Wines. They were in top form – hip flasks at the ready!

Erin’s surprise of a horse drawn carriage brought tears of joy:)……….oh, is there something in my eye??!!!

Heartfelt vows sealed with a kiss.

A frolic in the vineyards had us all in stitches, especially when Erin nearly lost her veil.

Oh my word, what a view from this venue. WOW!

There is nothing worse than when somebody leaves a random comment on Facebook, like “Only 75 more sleeps to go”. The reason is because I wanted you to come to my website to have a look at my latest achievement. Last June, for my 40th birthday, I bought myself a 3 Bed, 2.5 bath Condo (I like to call it that, cause it sounds good). Currently, I am in house sit arrangement, and the owners of the property are galavanting around Australia. Well, I have been here for nearly two and a half years, and I feel it is time to move on to my very own place. So, here she is, in all her glory…..Stay tuned for details on the Housewarming:)

Portrait Photography Brisbane – Meet Taylor

You might remember a couple of weeks ago – the Vintage shoot showcasing Dotti & Ez natural mineral make up. Taylor was due to be of our models, however unfortunately spent the afternoon throwing up. So, a few weeks later, Taylor made herself up (and did a stella job), and we whipped off some images to rival her sister’s. This is just a small selection, and if I may say so myself, I think they are stunning!!
